About Palma

Apart from having the excuse to have a siesta every afternoon as the locals do, being in Palma will give you a reason to go out meandering every day to refresh the tired brain from too much computer screen glare. A resort city and the capital of the Spanish Island of Mallorca floating in the Mediterranean, Palma rises in all its' honey-stoned splendor from the Bay of Palma. Historically the stomping ground of the Moors, the Romans and the Talayotic people, the 13th Century saw the Christians take over the land.

From the numerous historical sites that would give Indiana Jones a heart attack to the never-ending parade of galleries, craft studios, restaurants and bars, there is plenty that will keep the most curious mind happy. If you want some heavenly intervention in your life then head to the massive Santa Maria Cathedral, a Gothic landmark, whilst the war mongers will get a kick out of the Moorish-style Arab fortress, Almudaina or the Bellver Castle that is a medieval fortress.

Palma is a fantastic town to simply walk around admiring the huge baroque churches, aristocratic townhouses sitting in dynamic bohemian neighbourhoods, bustling squares and colourful markets. Browsing through Palma's biggest food market, Mercat de l'Olivar, is a definite must do for foodies and catching a train to scenic Seller through almond and orange orchards is for the romantics.

Whatever you get up to before, during or after work, make sure you munch on the local bread smothered in garlic, tomato and olive oil.
