About Guadalajara

As the birthplace of mariachi music, tequila, and the Mexican hat-dance, the city of Guadalajara has long been considered the gateway to Mexico's colourful culture. While remnants of its colonial past are visible in the older quarters, such as the Centro Historico, a grand effort to modernize the city has given it a facelift in recent years.

Walking through Guadalajara is a feast for all the senses. Take a stroll through the Plaza Guadalajara, where you can admire the city's coat of arms on the ornate central fountain. Look up to catch a glimpse of the twin towers of the cathedral, the most iconic addition to the city's skyline. Sample fresh local delicacies at one of the city's numerous street markets, or catch one of the performances of the folkloric ballet at the Teatro Delgado. Visitors can even take the famous Tequila Express train to a nearby distillery to learn about the origins of Mexico's most (in)famous drink.

For a more low-key getaway, spend a weekend relaxing by the warm beaches of the nearby Lake Chapala, or hike up to San Sebastian del Oeste, nestled in the heart of the Sierra, where you can get spectacular views of the Banderas bay during the day, and sleep under a carpet of stars at night.

While tourism is important to Guadalajara's economy, the city is also a leading tech manufacturing and service hub. An influx of foreign investment and the sprouting of numerous venture capital funds have been attracting talent from all over the country over the years. The development of a new Digital City is also underway, which hopes to better connect the city's community.
