About Bergamo

Sitting northeast of Milan, Bergamo is in the alpine Lombardy region. The city is cloaked in cobblestoned streets and Venetian walls. It's home to the Duomo di Bergamo, the city's cathedral where you can say a little prayer to the heavens above for the success of your startup on your way to your coworking venue. Bergamo is only about 40km from Milan, so you can easily run to the big smoke if you need a change of scenery or have a meeting with someone important to make a dream come true. It's only 30km from the Switzerland border with the Bergamo Alps in the north of the city. You can easily swan around the alpine lakes of Como. Bergamo is the 2nd most visited city in the Lombardy region after Milan and it's served by the Il Caravaggio International Airport that is the 3rd busiest airport in Italy.

The city has 2 hearts: the "upper city" that is a hilltop medieval town enclosed by 16th Century walls (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the "lower city", with both connected by a funicular, roads and footpaths for those who like to walk. There are so many historical buildings to gawk at that the history buff will not know where to look first. Bergamo's economy is focused on banking, retail and services to do with the industrial niche of its province.

Italians have creative culture in their blood, from food to fashion, design to wine and there are plenty of innovative tech savvy souls lingering over espressos. The government is instigating new initiatives to make it easier for startups to "start up" in light of the fact that it has always had a reputation for being bureaucracy-heavy. Bergamo may not be the tech hub on a par with Turin, Milan or Rome, but it does have its locals who have no desire to move from their beautiful home city. Coworking venues are giving them the space to mingle, to connect and to collaborate.
