About Panchkula

A planned city in the district of the same name, Panchkula forms a part of a continuous area with the union territory of Chandigarh and the city of Mohali. It has a huge student population due to the fact that it's awash in education institutions. Sitting about 4km from Chandigarh and 259km from New Delhi, it's a part of the Chandigarh Tricity with a combined population of over 2 million people. You will have to brush up on your Punjabi speaking skills, as this is the city's first language, despite being a part of the Hindi-speaking area. You will have to pack your summer gear plus winter woolies due to the great variation in temperature and it's prone to earthquakes because it lies in the Himalayas boundary fault zones, so maybe take some emergency gear as well (think hard hat). Local IT gurus are expounding that it is a good time to be an entrepreneur in India, as the market has matured from being just a bubble and the opening of coworking venues is testament to this fact.

Panchkula has its own IT Park known as Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation Technology Park that is a state-of-the-art infrastructure to facilitate information technology in the city. Startups are hitting new highs and global investors are putting funds into the sector, whilst innovative Indians are attempting to create the next billion-dollar company. The IT sector ranges from e-commerce to fitness and art, as it's being driven by India's expanding economy, rising disposable income and the tech boom.

As with the rest of India, Panchkula has its quota of new entrepreneurs giving up their day jobs to jump on the startup bandwagon. Coworking venues are supporting these intrepid souls whether they are students or seasoned professionals by giving them the space to mingle and collaborate before they dash home to gorge on some Rogan Josh.
