A coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala, Kozhikode is where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed in 1498. During the Middle Ages it was a spice trading hub nicknamed the "City of Spices", today it is the headquarters of the district by the same name and the 2nd largest urban agglomeration in Kerala that has a population of around the 2 million mark. It sits 250km from Bangalore and 525km from Chennai. Kozhikode is ranked as the 2nd best city in India to live in and 11th among Tier-II Indian cities in relation to job creation.
