About Versailles

Famous for having the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site the Chateau de Versailles plus its stunning gardens within its midst, Versailles sits in the Ile-de-France region, that is a western suburb of Paris. The town was founded by King Louis XIV and was the de facto capital of France from 1682 to 1789 when it became the birthplace of the French Revolution. Versailles name is forever tied to numerous treaties such as the Treaty of Paris (this ended the American Revolution) and the Treaty of Versailles (this was after World War 1). With a population of about 88,641 souls meandering its streets, sipping espresso in outdoor cafes and munching on pastries to die for, Versailles is now home to coworking venues.

Versailles is a contemporary and wealthy suburb with a service-based economy. It's the seat of a Roman Catholic diocese, the seat of a Court of Appeal plus home to the military camp of Satory. It first appeared in a medieval document dated 1038 when lords and kings ran the country and the land was predominantly a farming enclave with a big castle. Versailles is one of the most visited attractions in Paris. Over the years the suburb has become a cultural hub forming a part of Paris' artistic scene with a touch of wealthy bohemian flair.

Everything is changing in France at the moment with reforms aimed to help startups rather than hinder them. Efforts are being made to open both its economy and its borders to tech startups. Today it's far easier to hire and fire in France, which has lead to making labor costs far more predictable. Also, France is now offering easy-to-access French Tech visas, so that tech savvy souls can live and work in the country of luscious pastries and crunchy baguettes. The French mentality is evolving and taking into account the whole world, not just its own country. Big business and the government are supporting and creating a nurturing environment for its creative individuals to take advantage of. The opening of coworking venues is merely one more step in the ecosystem that may see France leading the European scene.
