About Ismailia

The capital of the Ismailia Governorate and sitting on the west bank of the Suez Canal, Ismailia is known as "The City of Beauty and Enchantment". Founded in 1863 during the construction of the Suez Canal, it still has many buildings dating from the French and British involvement with the canal. Coworking is slowly coming to this city of about 750,000 inhabitants to cater to the creeping demand of local creatives, startups and entrepreneurs as well as local businesses.

Ismailia gets tourists from within Egypt, but it is definitely not a major tourism hub for international tourists. It is located about a 90-minute drive from Cairo and about a 4-hour drive to Sharm el-Sheikh in the South Sinai. There are 2 international schools offering American Diploma and I.G.C.S. teaching systems (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and it is home to the Suez Canal University, one of the fastest growing educational institutions in Egypt.

With a climate classified as "hot desert", Ismalia is definitely not the place for those that like to rug up in a wintery haze. It holds 2 important festivals on an annual basis, one is the International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts and the other is the Ismailia International Folklore Arts Festival that attracts people from all around the globe. Meandering through the archaeological museum or going to archaeological sites at Tell el-Maskhuta will give you an excuse to run out the door of your coworking venue when you crave a break from your hectic brainwaves.
