A year round destination for outdoor pursuits, Penticton is in the stunning wine-growing region of the Okanagan Valley between the lakes of Okanagan and Skaha.  Cocooned by verdant forests, dramatic cliffs and lonely bluffs where there are cold mountain lakes to explore, this is an outdoor wonderland, especially if you have a penchant for the odd glass of wine or two.  An agricultural area, there is plenty of paddock-to-plate organic produce to supply the funky cafes and restaurants in town.

You can join in with the locals at one of their many festivals.  In July you can watch a movie from a lawn chair or a blanket at Okanagan Beach when they have the only outdoor floating screen in Canada sitting on the lake for the film festival.  August is the weeklong Penticton Peach Festival when you can let the kid inside of you out to play, making sandcastles or scoffing pancakes for breakfast.  Then for those that like a drop of wine occasionally, throughout the year you can stomp on grapes or wank and put your nose to work at a wine masters' dinner.  If a bit of abseiling or rock climbing gets the adrenalin pumping then go to the Skaha Bluffs, ski at the Apex Mountain Resort or fish in the Skaha Lake.
 
For those more into comfort and in dire need of a beanie, gloves and thermal underwear during the winter, head to The Penticton Art Gallery for a cultural experience or take a wine tour and warm yourself with a good wine or an ale or lager from one of Penticton's three micro-breweries.
