About Oshawa

The birthplace of General Motors, Oshawa sits on Lake Ontario in Canada about 60 km from downtown Toronto. Once known as the "Automotive Capital of Canada", it is now an education and health sciences hub with 3 post-secondary institutions: Durham College, Trent University Durham and University of Ontario Institute of Technology.  It is the base for the largest multi-specialty medical group practice in Canada, the Oshawa Clinic and home to a Regional Innovation Center that offers start-up facilities for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Considering the cities beginnings, it would be a crime not to visit the Canadian Automotive Museum where you can drool at an amazing collection of Canadian cars from the 19th Century to the present.  The lavish home, "Parkwood Estate", of the founder of General Motors is a National Historic Site of Canada.  There are secret rooms, ornate ceilings and even a bowling alley.  You can jump on board a tour around the estate and have a close up view of where films such as X-Men, Chicago and Studio 54 were filmed.

Oshawa has over 410 hectares of parkland (130 parks) with more than 27km of paved trails for biking, rollerblading or hiking, let alone a leisurely stroll if a snail's pace suits you better.  For the foodie, there are 6 farmers' markets to explore the local organic produce amidst a riotous colorful scene.  There is no lack of pubs to down a few drinks, cafes to get the necessary caffeine hit or restaurants to stave off the hunger pangs in the downtown area.
