About Waterloo

South of Brussels and known for being the site of the final defeat of Emperor Napoleon I in 1815, Waterloo has a population of about 29,706 inhabitants. It's a French-speaking town with a splash of Dutch thrown in for good measure. Battle historians will wet their pants as you can check out the battlefield where the allies stopped Napoleon from reaching Brussels. Here you will find a cast-iron lion sitting on a hill with a huge painting on a rotunda at its feet. Waterloo was first mentioned in the history books around the year 1102 when it was a mere hamlet on the outskirts of the Sonian Forest. From old war stories to startup stories, coworking venues have appeared on the streets of Waterloo to cater to its locals who have no desire to leave their home battle-ground.

Waterloo is where you will find the European headquarters of Master Card International and there are a few posh hotels plus shops and other facilities for its' locals. A couple of museums and castles will give you something to poke your nose in and cafes are the de rigueur place to meet up with friends for coffee.

Waterloo is no tech hub, but it does sit in Belgium that has a fast developing and dynamic startup scene, which is a flourishing hub for entrepreneurs. It's an active part of the global tech scene with various initiatives such as Health Tech, Fintech Hackathons and Startup weekends on the agenda. Belgium has a highly educated population and it is no wonder that coworking venues have opened up in the streets of Waterloo to cater to its innovative locals who like to hang out with the pack.
