About Toda

With an estimated population of around the 136,652 mark, Toda is separated from Tokyo by the Arakawa River, making it a bedroom community of the big smoke. Mostly residential and commercial, there is an efficient rail network for those who like to jump on a train to get to work. Coworking venues have opened up in Toda creating an alternative work environment for those innovative souls who wish to float in their own creative bubble, but in a collaborative space without jumping on a train.

Japan is changing its' view on entrepreneurship and its' tech savvy youth are not afraid of the stigma of failure any more, thanks to the media hype surrounding startups. The success of e-commerce and Internet gurus such as Mixi and Mercari, are creating a new breed of entrepreneurs that are not scared of going it alone to see their dreams become a reality. Japan does lag behind China and Silicon Valley, but the future holds a positive outlook. Many successful founders are now investing in new companies and young people are becoming more attracted to what the startup world can offer, such as freedom in the way they work. Government incentives for startups are also bolstering the scene.

The Japanese startup scene is rapidly growing with expectations that it will rejuvenate the country's economy. It has a huge domestic market (think the world's 3rd biggest) that is very hard for outsiders to penetrate. There is an emerging grassroots ecosystem happening that will connect the startup world and give ambitious entrepreneurs the right guidance, mentors, contacts and coworking spaces where they can get their stuff done.
