About Ubud

Have your own "Eat, Pray, Love" experience in the now cosmopolitan hub of Ubud, where history and culture sit side-by-side with funky cafes serving up espressos from local coffee connoisseurs.  From plush resorts and unique natural retreats, decadent spas to the age-old traditional temples and historical sites, Ubud is sublime and picturesque.  It is a far cry from the quite often-tacky beach scene of Bali.  Awash in lime green rice paddies, waddling ducks and serene moments of sheer bliss, Ubud is the great escape area.

Once a small village, it is now an international destination in its own right.
It is the land of rampaging monkeys in the sacred Monkey Forest, royal funerals where mammoth structures are carried on the shoulders of an army of locals down the main roadway, astounding Balinese architecture and plenty of tattooed bodies. Ubud proudly sits amidst flowing rivers, monasteries and golden temples. It is so easy to get around on foot, but if you are so inclined grab a bicycle and go exploring or hire a guide and a car for the historical sites out of town that shouldn't be missed such as Tirta Empul, Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave) and Gunung Kawi with its shrine cut into rock.

The center for traditional dancing, art and stunning hand made crafts, the iconic landscapes cuddle the city center.  Take a stroll through the rice paddies where there are several well-worn tracks to follow in sole bliss. You will come across the graceful local workers carrying baskets on their heads or sitting under a tree having a respite from their backbreaking work in the fields. Cover yourself up and take a moment of reverent calm in one of the many temples in town where you will no doubt experience a true "Zen" moment.  Art galleries are everywhere to explore, white water rafting is available for the intrepid traveler, take a yoga class, dive into the crystal cold waters of the Tegegungan Waterfall or visit The Green Village where the buildings are all made of bamboo.  You can even visit the local medicine man to have a quick check-up on your bodily health.

Ubud is a vegetarian's dream as there are many local restaurants and organic farms ready to give you a tour of the produce grown within the vicinity of the town. Whatever you do, brace yourself and try some of the locally made palm liquor named "Arak", it will blow your socks off.
