About Split

The fascinating coastal town of Split with its bloody past is awash in dreamy islands where you can sip on some of the best wine in the world.  Located on the Dalmatian Coast, its white stonewalls hide its heart in a fortress like complex. Gorgeous courtyards overflow with bars, cafes and galleries whilst the sprawling remnants of its historical Roman past include more than 200 buildings.  Think truffles, coins named after a lime tree and black squid risotto and you have Split in a nutshell.

The Old Town is a definite must to explore, even before you sun yourself on a pebbly beach.  Go on an historical hunt and visit the Diocletian's Palace, the City Museum, find the sphinxes from Egypt, the Cathedral and Bell Tower, meander around Marjan Hill's promenades and visit the old Port of Split.  Venture out and try to get your head around the ferry situation to take you to an island, such as Vrac, for a day or maybe a few nights.  Hang around the Pjaca Plaza, or have a cultural hit at the Mestrovic Museum where there are over 2,000 sculptures.   Put a peg on your nose and dive into the Fish Market early one morning to catch the locals hard at it, or keep the nose peg on and go to the sulphur baths.

Do gorge yourself silly on the freshest of fresh seafood dished up in spicy fish stew or merely grilled to perfection.
