Coworking Space: Aalters Bedrijvencentrum in Ghent

The term 'coworking' was devised by Bernie DeKoven and from 2005 used by Brad Neuberg at the start of a coworking location called 'Hat Factory' in San Francisco. It was a loft for 3 people who lived there and worked and was also open to others throughout the day. With the creation of Citizen Space in 2011, the first real coworking location in San Francisco was born. Thereafter, there were coworking locations around the world. San Francisco is still an important center of the coworking community.

Coworking works alone together. Every entrepreneur performs his own tasks but all this is done in a common space and you share the infrastructure. Collaboration and openness to others is central to coworking. This creates a "coworking hub".

De term ‘Coworking’ werd bedacht door Bernie DeKoven en vanaf 2005 gebruikt door Brad Neuberg bij het opstarten van een coworking locatie genaamd ‘Hat Factory’ in San Francisco. Het was een loft voor 3 mensen die daar woonden en werkten en ook open stond voor anderen gedurende de dag.. Met de oprichting van de Citizen Space in 2011 was de eerste echte coworking locatie in San Francisco geboren. Daarna ontstonden er coworking locaties over de hele wereld. San Francisco is nog steeds een belangrijk centrum van de coworking-community.

Coworking is samen alleen werken. Iedere ondernemer voert zijn eigen taken uit maar dit alles wordt gedaan in een gemeenschappelijke ruimte en je deelt de infrastructuur. Samenwerken en openheid naar anderen staat bij coworking centraal. Zo ontstaat een een “coworking hub”.
