About Florence

Beautiful Florence, it is the one town that will always draw people back to its cobble stoned lanes. It is where one street can begin as having one name and end in a completely different name, such as Via Martelli becomes Via Cavour.  It is a divine city that you actually don't mind getting lost in.  Florence is the capital of the region of Tuscany, a land overflowing in gold, leather and wine, it is considered to be the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.  And, it was the first state to abolish capital punishment in 1786.

The town to twirl your pasta in, Florence was the first city in Europe to have paved streets.  Home to the infamous Medici family, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Dante Alighieri, Niccolo Machiavelli and Florence Nightingale; this is where fashion reigns supreme. The masses of designer shop fronts shout out the names of Gucci, Cavalli, Raffaele and Donatello to name a few, of course in the most elegant of ways.  This is serious shopaholic territory where it is preferable if you have a mega bank account.

There are museums, palaces and churches housing some of the most famous and treasured arts in the world.  Visit the Uffizi, the Accademia, the Santa Croce and the Bargello for a hit of culture.  Have fun finding the big wooden doors of the famous Pharmacy of Santa Maria Novella, where you can make your own signature scent and where Hannibal Lecter shopped for Clarice. Spend a day in the Boboli Gardens or take in the gold upon gold merchants on the Ponte Vecchio, as the locals sunbathe below on concrete slabs of the Arno River.

Florence is a true Italian feast in one town.
