About Laval
A Canadian city sitting in the southwestern region of Quebec, Laval is the largest suburb of Montreal and the 13th largest city in Canada with a large population of 422,993 people wondering about its streets and gorging on "poutine" (think a mess of fries, gravy and cheese curds). The city is separated from the mainland by the Mille Îles and the Prairies Rivers, as it's mainly set on Île Jésus and Île Laval with a string of trails along its stunning waterfront. It has a diverse economy centered on pharmaceutical, technology, industrial and retail sectors plus some stone quarries and an agricultural base. Defined as a bedroom community for those who work in the big smoke, it's decked out in neoclassical buildings and plenty of cafes for those must-have shots of caffeine to kickstart the brain before heading to a coworking venue.
Dating back to the Jesuits in 1636, Laval has 4 very different industrial parks that call it home which include the Laval Science and High Technology Park that is an internationally renowned science campus housing Biotech City and the Information Technology Development Centre (ITDC) that is a unique concept in that its residents are both universities and companies. Laval is also home to Laval Technopole that is a nonprofit organization promoting economic growth by attracting and supporting new tech businesses and investments.
Canada is being touted as the business world's best-kept secret especially in the fields of artificial intelligence, clean technology and health care. Today it's competing on a global stage and is a major destination for commercial investment. The government is empowering new companies by hosting technology industry events featuring some of the world's best innovators and attracting international talent to work on world-changing innovations. The number of skilled foreign workers is skyrocketing and many scaling firms are actively hiring from overseas. Coworking venues are but one more space for the creatives to gather en masse in collaborative mode to get their stuff done with a grin on their faces.
