About Tangerang

A city in the province of Banten sitting on the western border of Jakarta, Tangerang is the 3rd largest urban area of Greater Jakarta metropolitan area with a population of around the 2,001,925 mark, which gives it the title of the 8th most populated suburb in the world. This was the giant property developers' playground, as they created the built-up areas of Gading Serpong, Lippo Village and BSD City, plus more. It's home to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport that is Indonesia's main gateway and also the biggest exhibition and convention center in Indonesia that opened in 2015. This manufacturing and industrial hub is now hosting coworking venues that have opened their doors to accommodate the inventive locals who have no wish to leave their own home-turf.

Hot and humid, Tangerang is where many corporations head to due to the crowds and traffic chaos of Jakarta. The city is in the middle and high-class belt of citizens with huge shopping malls, private schools and convenience centers to make life easy. The government is in the throws of expanding the highway system to accommodate the increase in the traffic flow to and from the area, as its urban footprint increases.

Indonesia has a flourishing digital economy happening that is being touted to become the world's 4th largest economy by 2050, if it continues at the same rate. It has a growing tech-savvy middle class that is young and in touch with the latest trends, think along the lines of 88 million people online with 79 million of them playing on social media. Its tech startup scene is just learning how to "walk" and there have already been some startups that have become major successes, despite the fact that they have had to overcome infrastructure challenges and the lack of a real ecosystem. The inventive individuals of Indonesia aren't just hitting the safe niche markets but are going for a range of different sectors and are happily playing in local coworking venues with other creatives.
