About Chemnitz
Chemnitz is located in eastern Germany in Saxony known for its huge Karl Marx Monument and the reconstructed Red Tower that is a remnant of the city's defensive walls. Snuggled into the foothills of the Ore Mountains, its home to the Chemnitz University of Technology with over 10,000 students running amok in its streets or invading coworking venues to get some work done. History buffs can get excited about checking out the 18th and 19th century buildings in the Kassberg neighborhood, whilst the arty crowd can flock to the Theater Chemnitz or check out the Gunzenhauser Museum with its modern art exhibitions. The must-see is the Chemnitz Petrified Forest in the courtyard of Kulturkaufhaus Tietz that dates back several million years and there is the smallest castle in Saxony to take a peek in known as "Rabenstein Castle". A city for shopaholics, you will find every international brand that you can think of in its plethora of shopping centers dotted around the town.
Germany's startup scene is thriving with opportunities given to creative souls to pitch their ventures to investors at "Startup Germany" that went on tour at the instigation of the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad. The startup scene is a bit of a mixed bag with almost 30% of startup staff not being German. There are a few hurdles to overcome such as red tape hassles, language barriers and the fact that most founders wish to hire skilled foreign workers. Eight out of ten German startups wish to go international, but legal systems and regulations may be inhibitors in this regard.
Despite these niggles, coworking spaces are overflowing with creatives in collaborative mode whilst mingling with a vibrant community even if it maybe overwhelmingly full of youthful exuberance.
