About Shah Alam

The state capital of Selangor in Malaysia, Shah Alam sits in the Petaling District and a tiny part of the neighboring district of Klang. It replaced Kuala Lumpur as the capital city in 1978 when Kuala Lumpur was incorporated into a Federal Territory. Shah Alam was the first "planned" city in Malaysia after its independence from Britain in 1957. With a tropical rainforest climate, you should always make sure you have an umbrella handy in case the heavens decide to open up when you are out and about. Coworking venues have opened up in the streets of this city that was granted city status in 2000. It was the first city in the world with no entertainment outlets, so that there would be no vice activities.

Shah Alam is a part of the growing startup scene happening throughout Malaysia where the Malaysian government has offered incentives and support for foreign tech companies to base their operations within the country, such as up to 10 years tax exemption and the ability to employ foreign workers. Today startups are in a better position to succeed more so than ever before and there is boundless positive sentiment within the industry, despite the remaining challenges to be faced.

Coworking venues appearing in Shah Alam are giving the locals the place to gather en masse with likeminded souls where they can get their work done in a collaborative space.
