About Heidelberg

Located in southwestern Germany on the Neckar River, Heidelberg is home to the 14th Century Heidelberg University giving the city a spirited student vibe. Gothic church towers stand like sentinels over the old town square that are lined with vibrant cafes, whilst the red-sandstone ruins of the Heidelberg Castle with its Renaissance architecture adorn the hill of Königstuhl. This small university city is one of the most inspiring towns in Germany with its forests and steep cliffs, and now there is a growing number of coworking venues giving the locals somewhere to connect and collaborate. It is ranked in the top 50 cities in the world to live in, based on factors such as performing arts institutions, art schools, galleries, museums, film industry, startup scene and general liveability.

Definitely on the tourist radar (think 11.8 million visitors annually) it is the place where William Turner was inspired to paint some of his greatest landscapes and Mark Twain spent 3-months in Heidelberg recounting his visions in "A Tramp Abroad" (1880). It has a thriving contemporary scene of authors, translators, publishing houses plus libraries and was named a UNESCO City of Literature in 2014. It is little wonder that the city's creative minds have taken wholeheartedly to the concept of coworking.

Heidelberg University is one of the oldest surviving universities in the world and has been shaping minds since 1386, filling the city with innovative and creative souls who are forging into the tech era. Coworking venues are providing these intrepid individuals with the space in which to release their energy and achieve their dreams.

For the local business mind, the startup, the entrepreneur or the wandering person with a laptop in tow, there is plenty to see such as churches, museums, squares, parks and gardens, as well as riding the city's funicular railway, when you need to escape the tapping of laptops in a coworking space.
