About Bratislava

Surrounded by the Little Carpathian Mountains and vineyards, Bratislava sits on the Danube River near the border of Austria and Hungary. This is the land for the outdoor enthusiast who likes to get lost in the wilds, as there are numerous hiking and cycling trails in the forest to lose yourself in when the brain gives up and you need to get physical.

Known for its pumping bars and funky cafes, this 18th Century old town precariously sits on top of a hill in the shadow of the Bratislava Castle. It is a hodgepodge of green forests, flowing river water, urban yet classic with a concrete jungle of modernism closing in on the city. Once known by its German name "Pressburg", the city is invaded by almost a million visitors each year. The largest and capital city of Slovakia, it is only an hour away from Vienna - think a mere 50 km.

This is the city with the UFO Bridge looming over the Danube River, its most famous landmark and where the munching on its iconic tasty sweet pastry snack "Bratislavsky rozok" is de rigueur for anyone that visits the town. If you find yourself in the downtown area where the backpackers and the tourists hang out, you can get yourself lost amidst the crazy winding laneways and historic buildings plus quirky statues from the communist-era of the old town. A jog or leisurely walk along the paths following the Danube is where to grab some fresh air and stretch your legs. The Bratislava Castle from around the 9th Century is the centerpiece of the town and worth the effort to climb up to its whitewashed walls. For the history buffs doing the rounds of the "Gates" (Sigmund Gate, Vienna Gate and Nicholas Gate) of the castle will put you back in time.

If you need a bit of heavenly intervention in your work or travel life, then you should head to the Blue Church Bratislava with its 40m high tower painted blue as it is worth checking out for a pious moment.
