About San Gil
A small town for adrenalin junkies that is considered to be Colombia's adventure sports capital, San Gil straddles the River Fronce sitting south of Bucaramanga in the north of Colombia. Picturesque and totally walkable, San Gil is perched on a hillside with super narrow sidewalks. If you are into sedate activities, you can poke your nose into the 18th Century Cathedral of Santa Cruz and say a little prayer for the success of your startup on the way to a coworking venue or swing from huge trees cloaked in silvery moss into white-water rapids for the adventurous souls. There is a natural swimming hole, Balneario Pozo Azul, where you can laze on a big boulder dreaming up innovative ideas or stand under a waterfall and get totally saturated. From rock climbing to paragliding and white water rafting in a canyon, adventure seekers get to play with the 42,998 locals.
Colombia does have a rapidly expanding startup scene with significant government investment in tech industries. Large incubators can be found in Medellin and Bogota, and there are numerous startups making headlines such as "SiembraViva" that is fighting the urban-rural divide by connecting farmers to urban consumers. Another startup, "Viajala", has put all of Colombia's domestic airlines on a single user-friendly platform so that its users can get the best deal.
Coworking venues have become the go-to places for these inventive souls to get their work done amidst likeminded souls before taking the plunge of indulging in a feast of ants, the local delicacy.
