About Novi Sad
The second city of Serbia and known for its annual "Exit" Festival, one of Europe's foremost music events held at the incredible and unique venue of the Petrovaradin Fortress. This is when 50-100 thousand revelers carouse continuously for 4 days of sheer mayhem of booze, drugs, casual sex and "death-by-dehydration" whilst listening to music.
The city is the crossroads of the continent. A multinational commercial and transit hub endowed with historical and cultural sights that rival many larger cities, Novi Sad will intrigue you.
The fortress is perched on a riverside bluff on one bank of the Danube, whilst churches of varying denominations dominate the opposite bank. Pedestrian zones lazily meander through the old town that is dotted with art galleries and museums for the curious to poke their noses into. There are plenty of opportunities to have caffeine hits at one of the many quaint cafes in the town square and people watch or you can rub shoulders with the sprawling locals in one of the many pretty parks dotted around. Getting lost in the laneways in search of a bar is always fun, especially when its dark.
You can check out the iconic clock tower at the fortress or play in its network of tunnels, or cross the river to the old quarter of the Stari Grad where you will find the Neo-Renaissance City Hall. The monasteries of Fruska Gora or the stunning Salasi tourist farms are worth jumping on a bike for a pleasant interlude of cycling. If you want to get your feet wet, then head to one of finest beaches, the Strand.
Founded in 1694, the city earned its nickname "Serbian Athens" when it became a trading and manufacturing center during the 18th and 19th centuries. Restored after the 1848 Revolution, today Novi Sad is a major cultural center.
For the digital nomad, Novi Sad is heaven due to its friendliness, cheap hostels and food costs. It is the perfect place to chill out and work.
