About Burnley
A town in Lancashire, Burnley sits where the rivers Calder and Brun meet, about 34km north of Manchester and 32km east of Preston. Known as the regional hub for manufacturing and aerospace industries, it's close to the small towns of Nelson and Padiham surrounded by countryside. Burnley developed from a number of farming hamlets and manor houses amidst royal forests in the early medieval period. It was a market town for over 700 years and during the Industrial Revolution it was a prominent mill town that was once the world's largest producers of cotton cloth and a hub for engineering. Today coworking venues have opened up in its streets to cater to its innovative locals and tech savvy youth graduating from one of the many education institutions to be found in this city where you will find the Burnely Miner's Club that is the world's largest consumer of the French liqueur, Bénédictine.
Home to the "Singing Ringing Tree", a wind powered sound sculpture that looks like a tree, Burnley is awash in museums and galleries plus there are plenty of stunning parks to meander around, especially in summer when brass band concerts happen each year. A gorgeous town of specialist food shops, eclectic independent record and bookshops, its streets flow with a huge range of award-winning beers for those into their hops.
