About Cadiz
An ancient port city in the southwest of Spain, Cadiz is in the Andalucía region and is the capital of the province of the same name. Home to the Spanish Navy since the 18th Century, it is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in Western Europe. Hordes of feet have been tramping over this town for as far back as 3,100 years when the Phoenicians founded it. Since the 16th Century it has been the hub of exploration and trade with a port featuring over 100 watchtowers and an 18th century cathedral with baroque and neoclassical characteristics dominating the waterfront. The city of Cadiz is overflowing with enthusiastic and innovative youth as it is home to the University of Cadiz, giving it a dynamic and vibrant air. Coworking spaces have become the new home of many students and creative locals wishing to hang out with likeminded individuals in this typical Andalusia city.
Like many other Spanish cities, Cadiz is seeing a change in the business scene that was once dominated by traditional roles. Today it is quite acceptable from a cultural point of view to say that you are an entrepreneur and not a civil servant. Spanish entrepreneurs have a competitive advantage of being able to grab skilled developers and engineers at a fraction of the Silicon Valley cost, which is why many startups are chasing their dreams in this land of wine and Jamon Iberico (Iberian ham) who can Flamenco dance the night away.
The history buff will have no shortage of places to haunt and for the meanderer of old cities, the ancient sector of town is a never ending hunt through barrios, large plazas and numerous parks where you can find giant trees believed to have been brought to Spain by Columbus. The seeds of a startup ecosystem are gradually spreading as the city is home to 150 startups and has the largest number of incubators in the country. Now coworking spaces are popping up everywhere to cater to the city's innovative inhabitants.
