About Pietrasanta
The city where the 1960s Italian actress and Hollywood star Gina Lollobrigida calls home and where the Mexican film director of Harry Potter, Alfonso Cuaron lives with his family, Pietrasanta must have something going for it. Sitting on the coast of northern Tuscany at the foothills of the Apuan Alps about 32km from Pisa, this medieval town is often referred to as "Little Athens of Italy". Known for its marble and bronze workshops, artists and monuments, it is now home to coworking venues for the inventive locals and the intrepid wanderers with laptops in their backpacks.
It is an amazing town where you can tap away working in the morning and then quickly run to the beach of Marina di Pietrasanta or Forte dei Marmi when you need a break. It is also the perfect spot to base yourself if you wish to do a bit of exploring around the area in towns such as Cinque Terre, Lucca and Florence. Its historical heart will lure you in with its beautiful Piazza del Duomo, cobblestoned alleys choked with tiny workshops, local specialty shops, art galleries plus there are plenty of bars where you can sit sipping your aperitif whilst watching the passing parade of people. Italy is not just about food, fashion, wine and design, as it is also becoming a hotbed for technology with an array of startups gaining momentum.
Pietrasanta may not be a throbbing hub for innovation, but it is certainly home to some intrepid souls that are not risk-averse and who are making the most of the new initiatives that the Italian Government are introducing. Coworking venues have become the place where these likeminded souls are gathering, collaborating and getting their ideas out into the world in between mouthfuls of yummy pasta.
