About Liverpool

Naming a city after a mythical bird and a Liver Bird at that, which is supposedly akin to a seagull, is somewhat quirky but understandable considering the number of birds that invade this bustling port city.

The Beatles called it home, the waterfront area is a World Heritage Site from The Pier Head and Stanley Dock through the commercial districts to St George's Quarter and you will find more museums and galleries, apart from the number in London. It is a hot spot for the number of movies filmed in the city, from The Hunt for Red October to The Parole Officer; it doubles what is made in any other city in the world. Liverpool is a living museum, an historical maritime city, sitting in the northwest of England.

For the history buffs this is a fantasyland of sights from the Museum of Liverpool and the Merseyside Maritime Museum to the iconic shipping buildings known as the "Three Graces" guarding the Pier Head. For the arty crowd there is the Walker Art Gallery, the Tate Liverpool or the Open Eye Gallery to meander around. It is a football enclave being home to both the Liverpool and Everton teams.

Being the 5th most popular international destination for visitors, no wonder it is wall to wall pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes, for when your legs won't carry you any further.
