Lin Chen is a SoCal native that is currently working and living the dream in New York City. Recently, she has launched her own branding and marketing consultancy where she works with woman-founded indie eco beauty brands.
Here Lin will share some of her secrets to success, along with what has guided and motivated her to start her own business, Pink Moon Co.
What are you working on right now within your marketing consultancy?
I am working with about 11 brands – all in the natural beauty space. I do a little bit of everything from rebranding, product development, global business development, keeping the brand founders organized, public relations, and content creation.
Is there a book that has shaped your life or changed the way you think about the world?
Neon Soul by Alexandra Elle. It’s a book filled with proses/poems about self-love, female empowerment, and happiness. Alexandra’s words are really beautiful and uplifting.
What’s your favorite quote?
When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy. — Rumi
How do you start your ideal day?
I try to refrain from checking my phone first thing in the morning (a bad habit!). So, days that I don’t do that: I stretch, roll out my yoga mat and do a sun salutation, and follow it with a 1-2 minute plank. Then I feel ready to go about my day!
What is something you think everyone should try at least once in their life?
Taking a solo trip somewhere. There’s nothing like enjoying your own solitude in a foreign country. I traveled to Norway alone earlier this summer, and it was an amazing experience. It helped me learn to be more self-sufficient, and it was nice to just enjoy some quiet time to think and reflect.
What is one skill or hobby you’ve been meaning to learn but haven’t had time for?
I’ve been wanting to try an improv class. It has been on my list for the past few years.
List 3 simple things in life that make you really happy:
1.) The sea
2.) Gummy vitamins
3.) Sunsets
Name someone that has made an impact in your life and why?
My mom. She is a very strong woman (the kind of mom who wears the pants in the house) who has taught me to be resilient and to keep my head up.
What is the most rewarding thing you’ve ever done?
Launching my own company. I’m working specifically with companies who are friendly to the earth, mind, body and soul. It feels amazing to know that I’m helping them make a greater, more positive impact on the world we live in.
What is your favorite Coworking space and why?
I haven’t discovered a favorite one yet!
When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?
Dating advice :p Haha, but on a serious note, people come to me for help on writing content and also natural skincare advice – brands and products I recommend.
What is the biggest item on your bucket list at the moment?
Move abroad to Europe and live an unconventional nomadic life. I want to learn how to live more minimally and eco-friendly.
How do you maintain a sense of work-life balance?
I work a lot and at odd hours and sometimes weekends, so it’s super important for me to find a healthy balance. I go to the gym a few times a week, cook healthy meals at home, start my day with yoga and meditation, and surround myself with positive loving energy.
Name one skill you think everyone should have or learn?
How to communicate. It’s important in all realms of life – relationships, workplace, friendships, family etc.
What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?
Booking my solo trip to Norway. I wasn’t on the lookout for tickets to Norway, but a flight deal popped up on my Facebook newsfeed – advertising $250 RT from JFK to Oslo. I booked it in a heartbeat!
What was your first job? Has it shaped where you are today?
I interned at a natural beauty startup that actually isn’t much of a startup now as it has grown to a worldwide company. It was not only where I launched my natural beauty career, but it also taught me a lot about being thick skinned and how to think for myself.
What’s your favorite part about coworking?
Being surrounded by like-minded creative entrepreneurs who want to make the world a better place.
What is your go to pump up song?
Jubel (Original Mix) – Klingande
