About Acton

You will need a car to get around the suburban city sprawl of Acton in the Middlesex County of Massachusetts. Incorporated in 1735, it has been named as one of the 11 best places to live in a small town. Yes it is suburbia - a residential enclave - so expect a lot of lunch boxes, tuck shop mums and cars full of kids.

Acton actually comprises of 5 village centers with Acton being the civic center of the town where you will find the town hall, main public library and a monument commemorating the Acton deaths in "the Concord Flight" of the Revolutionary War.

The industrialized area in South Acton includes the Faulkner Homestead, the oldest homestead in the city dating from 1707, quite a few old mills and the Jones Tavern that is another revolutionary-era building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The commercial area is predominantly in East Acton together with a large residential area. Whereas, North Acton is awash in condominium buildings and commercial complexes, including the Village of Nagog Woods, a housing development.

There are the Discovery Museums that cater mostly to kids and teenagers, but that is about it for sights to gawk at. However the town has a total of 1,650 acres of park and conservation lands for exploring and as one would expect a plethora of playgrounds and playing fields.
