Sitting on the Kansas and Big Blue Rivers, Manhattan is in the Riley County and has a population of 52,281 inhabitants. Founded in the 1850s it has been nicknamed "The Little Apple" as a taunt on New York City's "Big Apple" label. Home to the Kansas State University, Manhattan definitely has a strong college town vibe rumbling throughout its streets dotted with student mayhem. The Manhattan Regional Airport is the 2nd busiest commercial airport in Kansas, probably due to all of the kids flying back home when they can.
