About Porlamar

The largest city on Isla Margarita in Venezuela, Porlamar was founded in 1536, less than 40 years after Christopher Colombus first sailed through the region. Once a quiet little fishing village, Porlamar began city life as a fortress with 4 bastions and a watchtower named "San Carlos Borromeo". Today it's a vibrant and dynamic hub awash in shops, quirky boutiques, cafes and restaurants that are frequented by both local and international tourists, predominantly European. With 144,830 locals swanning around its gorgeous streets, Porlamar is home to about one-third of the island's population. In 1973 it was granted free-port status, and it's the island's commercial heart. Narrow streets lined with boutiques make for fantastic shopping opportunities, and there are plenty of hotels and apartments catering to the tourist hordes bent on having shopping sprees. Coworking venues appearing in the streets are catering to not just the inventive locals, but to the shoppers that linger longer than anticipated.

Perched on the north coast of South America, Venezuela is home to numerous natural attractions, islands wallowing along its Caribbean coastline and the astounding Andes Mountains. The capital of the country, Caracas, sits in the north.

Porlamar shows-off stunning architectural traits, a beautiful port where cruise ships line up and plenty of cafes and restaurants dishing up traditional dishes such as "arepa", a flat round unleavened patty made of corn flour. Fried, grilled or baked, this delicious offering can be filled with scrambled eggs, black beans with cheese, seasoned ground beef or made into a healthy snack with the addition of chia seeds, flax seeds or oats. Make sure you grab an empanada to munch on when travelling to your coworking venue or else you will be dreaming of traditional luscious empanadas all day.
