About Santa Clara

Santa Clara is a city for the foodie freaks with its farmers' markets all year round on a Saturday morning in downtown Jackson Street. You can rub shoulders with the person growing your vegies and know exactly where the produce has come from. It is heaven for the "locavore" or the wannabe one. On an annual basis there is a grand production of an Art & Wine Festival that covers a weekend of total pig out indulgence with amazing food, wine and beer and live music, to get you into the party mood.

Bordered by San Jose, Cupertino and Sunnyvale, Santa Clara is the 9th most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area established in 1777 in the county of the same name. About 72km southeast of San Francisco, it was named after the Mission Santa Clara de Asis. You can actually visit the Mission and its gardens located in the grounds of the Santa Clara University, the oldest higher learning institution in California.

This is the center of Silicon Valley and home to high-tech companies such as Intel Corporation that basically runs the entire computer industry. You can actually run in agitated excitement or calmly walk around the super cool museum displaying the history and operations of this groundbreaking tech company. If you want to trash your credit cards head to the hedonistic shopaholic's paradise of the Westfield Valley Fair Mall where you can drool over Prada, Burberry and Cartier. You can go fast and furious in your mind at Santa Clara's indoor go-kart racing track, where the karts can reach speeds of up to 45 miles per hour - totally for those into joy riding. Poke your nose into the past at the Harris-Lass Museum built in 1865 or check out the Triton Museum of Art, for the arty crowd.

If it is all a bit too buzzy for you, then head to the Civic Center Park and gawk at the gigantic statue of the city's namesake, Saint Clare.
