About Gibraltar

A British Overseas Territory sitting on Spain's southeast coast, Gibraltar is in the shadow of the Rock of Gibraltar. Settled by the Moors in the Middle Ages and later dominated by the Spanish, this outpost was "given" to the British in 1713. Wandering its streets you will hear either English spoken or a quaint sing-song mix of English and Spanish. All of its signs are in English, so you won't get lost if you don't have an ear for languages. It's a densely populated city that is home to over 30,000 people and a strategic hub, as half of the world's seaborne trade passes through the Strait of Gibraltar. Coworking venues have popped up in this pseudo British hangout where you can still partake of the stiff-upper lip afternoon tea ritual.

Gibraltar's economy is based mostly on tourism, online gambling, cargo ship refueling and financial services. There are red pillar-boxes, 1970s seaside hotels and fish and chip shops lining its streets. Its' Barbary macaques are little thieves in line with its swashbuckling local history and the history buff can check out the remains of a 14th Century Moorish castle or the 18th Century Great Siege Tunnels. Brexit has thrown up uncertainties for Gibraltar, but innovation and a wealth of entrepreneurs are determined to see the opportunities that may arise. They want to focus on the fact that entrepreneurship brings about economic growth, creates educational and professional opportunities, which will open the way for new industries.

Given the fact that Gibraltar has the chance to grow and expand its international startup leanings, it is little wonder that coworking venues are now the prime hangout venue for its innovative locals.
