About Spring Hill

Once you find the Windmill in Wickham Park that was built by convicts in 1827, you will know you have found Spring Hill, one of the oldest residential areas in Brisbane.  Spring Hill is simply amazing for its location.  It was so named because the hill on which Spring Hill sits was where the creek was that gave Brisbane city its fresh water supply.

You are literally "steps" above the heart of Brisbane's pulse, with the funky vibe of Fortitude Valley and colorful aromatic Chinatown within walking distance to the East, whilst the stunning gardens of the Roma Street Parklands sit to the West.  Spring Hill is central, historical and trendy, with cute cafes and some chic restaurants and bars, plus historical pubs.

A walk around Spring Hill will give you a sense of another era when workers' cottages and terrace houses were squished together and little back streets meandered around. The old Spring Hill Reservoir that was built between 1871 and 1882 is now a live opera venue. The original Spring Hill Baths, built in 1886, still operate today and it is a surreal experience to use one of the tiny individual dressing rooms surrounding the pool area.

The Brisbane Show Grounds is also within an easy walk, where numerous events and concerts are held. It is this central position that gives Spring Hill an inner city bustle with a cosmopolitan flair of not only a trendy residential area, but a thriving business community as well. There are plenty of slick bed & breakfasts in stunning renovated buildings, stylish self-contained units and quite a few luxury hotels.
