A town sitting in the north of Germany, Neuwied is the capital city of the district of the same name. Perched on the east bank of the River Rhine, 12km northwest of Koblenz, the city has about 8,000 residents wandering its streets, sipping coffee in cafes and hanging out in coworking venues getting creative. Founded in 1653, the city has 13 suburban enclaves. Archeologists have been busy excavating the largest
"castra" (military camp) on the Rhine, so history lovers can definitely get excited. The land of bratwurst, cabbage, potatoes and sauerkraut, with the odd turnip thrown in for good measure, Neuwied's locals will be all too willing to introduce you to their national cuisine with lots of beer, brandy or schnapps to wash down all the local goodies.

Germany's startup scene is thriving with opportunities given to creative souls to pitch their ventures to investors at "Startup Germany" that went on tour at the instigation of the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad. The startup scene is a bit of a mixed bag with almost 30% of startup staff not being German. There are a few hurdles to overcome such as red tape hassles, language barriers and the fact that most founders wish to hire skilled foreign workers. Eight out of ten German startups wish to go international, but legal systems and regulations may be inhibitors in this regard.

Despite these niggles, coworking spaces are overflowing with creatives in collaborative mode whilst mingling with a vibrant community even in small towns such as Neuwied.
